1.Oil Leakage / Seepage
Causes:
● Aging, deformation or improper installation of the gasket
● Thermal deformation of plastic oil pans (common issue in BMW and some joint-venture vehicles)
● Uneven torque or thread stripping of mounting bolts
Symptoms:
● Oil stains under the vehicle, oil drips on the ground
● Increased oil consumption and dirty engine appearance
2.Denting, Deformation or Cracking Due to Impact
Causes:
● Poor road conditions, bottoming out, or impact from stones
Symptoms:
● Sudden massive oil loss
● Oil pressure warning light illuminates → shut off the engine immediately, otherwise engine scuffing and total failure will occur
3.Accumulation of Impurities and Metal Shavings Inside the Oil Pan
Causes:
● Engine wear, bearing damage, or timing chain wear
Symptoms:
● Engine oil turns black rapidly
● Iron shavings found on the oil pan magnet or oil strainer
● In severe cases: oil passage clogging and engine failure (as seen in recent Nissan recall issues)
4.Abnormal Oil Level or Poor Oil Suction
Causes:
● Detachment or deformation of the internal oil baffle
● Oil starvation during hard acceleration or sharp turns
Symptoms:
● Oil pressure warning at high speed or in curves
● Abnormal wear of camshafts and bearings
5.Issues with Oil Pan Bolts
● Stripped threads on the drain plug → slow oil leakage
● Omission of replacing the sealing washer → oil seepage
● Over-tightening causing cracking of the oil pan housing
6. Corrosion and Rust (Cast Iron / Aluminum Housings)
● Coolant mixing into engine oil (damaged cylinder head gasket) → oxidation and blistering inside the oil pan
● Exterior corrosion caused by salt and muddy water
7. Poor Heat Dissipation
● Damaged aluminum housing or excessive sludge buildup → poor oil cooling, high oil temperature, reduced power and increased fuel consumption
